At this point in time, my resources are
definitely limited but that has never kept me from aspiring to come up with a
project that will eventually convince enough people it is worth investing in in
whatever form. Here is the list of resources I do posses at this point in
time.
1.) My Gainesville network of entrepreneurs -
This is something I have started to build on more recently by simply talking to
people who are working on start up that I know from before who have then
connected me to other people that are more relevant to field I want to get in.
So far it has been really helpful to talk to every single one of them. Value:
High ;Rare: High (I believe the people I have had the opportunity to meet are
otherwise not so easy to meet) 'Inimitable: Low 'Non-substitutable: High
2.) UF entrepreneurship resources. On this one
I am just beginning to discover the immense resources on campus the and the
emphasis the university puts on entrepreneurship. This class is one such
resource. Gator Hatchery is another great place to find help. Value: High
;Rare: Medium 'Inimitable: Medium 'Non-substitutable: High
3.) Finance background. As a finance major I
can use my knowledge gained in school to handle a very important part of any
venture. Value: High ;Rare: Low 'Inimitable: Low 'Non-substitutable:
Medium
The resources above are the only ones that are non-personal that
I could come up with. Below are my some of my personal
experiences/characteristics that I believe are going to be a resource
in my entrepreneurial pursuits.
4.) Geographical/Historical
background- Just between 0-15 years of age the two countries I have lived in 6
different political entities (Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro, Kosovo under
United Nations, Serbia by itself, Kosovo Republic). Having experienced these
transformations and one war and lived most of my life in post conflict country
gives me a relatively unique perspective in world affairs and peace and
conflict issues. I believe this makes me a broader thinker and a more
understanding entrepreneur. Value:
Medium ;Rare: High 'Inimitable: Low 'Non-substitutable: High
5.) Diverse educational
experiences. I have been part of a developing country education system until
grade 11, and then I transferred to an International Baccalaureate (IB) high
school in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was a massive leap, and then to United
States for college. To be able to survive such drastic changes education but
also way of living I have had to develop aggressive adaptive skills. Value: High ;Rare: High 'Inimitable: Medium
'Non-substitutable: High
6.) Travel experiences.
Having had the opportunity to move for education, I early on have realized the
benefit and the beauty of travel. Hence every saving and free time I have
managed to put together I have tried to use to travel around and my map at this
point counts 32 countries, not one to regret. During these trips I have made
meaningful connections, encountered people from all paths of live including
entrepreneurship and have learned from incredible diversity our world has. Value: High ;Rare: Medium 'Inimitable:Low
'Non-substitutable: Low
7.) Family background. As
mentioned on previous posts, neither of my parents has ever held a paid job.
Seeking entrepreneurial opportunity is a way of life for my family and is what
dominates every family discussion. I grew up being given the chance to help out
with the different businesses my family has run. Value:
High ;Rare: Medium 'Inimitable: Low 'Non-substitutable: High
8.) Long experience at failing. Before I was
admitted to the international school where I went to for the last two years of
high school I had been rejected five times in my applications to different
programs, including one rejection to the one I eventually was admitted in.
Despite the fact that such experience can devastate anyone in early teens, I
managed to get back each time and keep on going for the next opportunity. Hence
I have grown to see failure as the yet another step to success. Value: High ;Rare: High 'Inimitable: High 'Non-substitutable:

Here you have it, the only 8 resources I could come up with, although they do not amount to 10 (under their current broad definition), I think they if I utilize best I can, my entrepreneurial story has a high likelihood in turning into a success story.
You did a pretty good job coming up with unique resources that are also informative. I think "long experience at failing" is one that many entrepreneurs face so it was great that you included that! ReplyDeleteI really liked your resources, especially about your gainesville group of entrepreneurs. That is definitely a very good resource that not everyone posses and is something you should cherish. Being able to get together with people that help you do what you want to do is amazing.
